South Delhi/Big Creek Field, Louisiana

! On August 24, 2006, the Company entered into an assignment of oil and gas interests purchase agreement with Energy Program Accompany, LLC (the EPA Purchase Agreement). Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It's the market's tacit way of saying it expects oil to rebound firmly in the foreseeable future, even if the professionals aren't explicitly saying it. With that being the case, true contrarian speculators - the ones who put their money where their mouth is - may want to consider small cap oil play Hydrocarb Energy Corp. (OTCBB:HECC) as a high-potential way of playing oil's recovery in 2015.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

The experts have spoken, and investors would do well to listen (and read between the lines). While Hydrocarb Energy Corp. (OTCBB:HECC) may not be poised to become the next Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), it is poised to follow in the footsteps of Tullow Oil Plc (OTCMKTS:TUWOY) [long story - more on that below]. Perhaps more bullish than anything right now, however, is that other, independent observers are starting to take notice, and think HECC shares could be worth nearly three times as much as where they're trading now within the foreseeable future.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It may seem trite (and a little dated) on the surface, but Warren Buffett's sage advice stands as tall today as it did the first time her ever said it.... "Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful." And, to say investors have been fearful of oil names like Kosmos Energy Ltd (NYSE:KOS), Africa Oil Corp. (CVE:AOI), and Hydrocarb Energy Corp. (OTCBB:HECC) of late would be an understatement. Not only have all three been pressured against a backdrop of plunging oil prices, HECC, KOS, and AOI have been doubly pressured because a big piece of what they do within their oil exploration exploits is done in Africa, where oil's recent volatility has been particularly disruptive. As Buffett has accurately explained so many times in the past though, trends have a funny way of ending right around t! he time m! ost investors are certain they'll never end.

Frank Micelotta/Invision/APWhen Burt Reynolds announced that he was auctioning his memorabilia, the media cited his financial problems. He said he's simplifying his life. When you make resolutions and plan and budget for what you hope will happen in the next year, do you ever ask yourself what went wrong this year? Why did it seem like there was never enough money? What resulted in that overdraft fee -- or onslaught of fees? Answering questions like that, and making sure you don't repeat your mistakes, can make for a better future. With that in mind, let's take a look at some personal finance stories that made the news in 2014 and see what, if anything, we can learn from them to make 2015 an even better year. January In the waning months of 2013, hackers broke into Target's (TGT) system and put 100 milli! on customers' identities at risk by stealing credit and debit card data. While it was a big news story then, it was an even bigger one in January. Also this month, unrelated to Target: The Better Business Bureau warns that credit card scammers were charging stolen credit cards for tiny amounts of money, with $9.84 being a common charge. Criminals evidently believed cardholders wouldn't notice the charges, and that credit card companies wouldn't come after crooks for such small amounts. Lesson learned: Complacency doesn't pay. Monitor your credit card at least on a monthly basis, and for your bank account, weekly or daily isn't a bad idea. February The U.S. Treasury and Justice Department allow banks to provide financial services to marijuana-related businesses that are operating legally within states where marijuana is permitted. Meanwhile, Switzerland's second-largest bank, Credit Suisse, makes news because billions of dollars in U.S. taxes are going unpaid due to some wealthy Americans allegedly using secret Credit Suisse bank accounts. Lesson learned: It's always smart to be on good terms with the Internal Revenue Service. And, boy, do times change.

First Citizens Bank and Trust (FCNCA) is another bank that has seen its returns slipping in the past year. The return on assets and return on equity have both dropping for three consecutive quarters. The tangible equity-to-assets ratio is improving, and now stands at 9.46 but is still below the national averages.

So for investors looking for those levels or more, Oceaneering International (OII) could be the option and Core Laboratories NV (CLB) tremendous ratio seems very attractive. Top 5 Safest Stocks To Own Right Now

The old adage of risk equaling reward couldn't be truer. It was 2008, and the stock market was in chaos.

Great rewards went to investors who took the risk of stepping into the fray to buy the lows. But during the same time, many investors were practically wiped out because they failed to manage their risks wisely in the highly volatile environment.

The stock market today isn't as volatile as it was during the financial crisis. However, the same investing maxim still holds: The greater the risk, the greater the rewards.

Many investors shun risk. These risk-averse investors pile into the safest possible investments in an effort to preserve principal at all costs. This attitude will most likely preserve your portfolio, but it will also greatly decrease your potential for market-beating rewards.

Casper1774 Studio/Shutterstock You may not have noticed it, but recently, it's gotten easier to buy a new home. Last year, a strong housing market combined with fears that the Federal Reserve would eventually begin tapering its purchases of mortgage bonds. Together, these factors helped drive up the cost of a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage from about 3.3 percent in January 2013 to nearly 4.6 percent by September. Since then, mortgage rates have backed off those recent highs, bobbling back and forth between 4.5 percent or so, and, recently, 4.2 percent. This has helped to keep housing affordable for those who want to buy a home. But it did pose the bankers a dilemma: How could they get more people to want to buy homes in the first place, so that they could sell more mortgages? Answer: Make it easier to apply for a mortgage. Mortgage Down Payments Live Down to Their Name Last spring, lending data website LendingTree.com (TREE) released a report showing that the average down payment demanded by mortgage bankers to obtain a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage had fallen 9.4 percent since mid-2011. At 16.1 percent, it was nearly 4 full percentage points shy of the old rule of thumb that a home buyer should put 20 percent down on a new home. Six months later, average down payments had fallen to 15.73 percent of the value of a home. Now, LendingTree has put out an updated report showing that after down payment demands inched back up in 2013 (to 16.01 percent), they've begun to fall once more. At last report, mortgage bankers on average want to see a 15.78 percent down payment -- a bit more than what we saw last fall, but still continuing the downward trend in down payments. Why? One clue may be found in recent comments from Freddie Mac vice president and chief economist Frank Nothaft, who's been highlighting declines in existing-home sales, in new-home sales as well, and even in permits taken out to build houses, in a series of reports through April. If home-buying is

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Another under-$10 stock that's quickly pushing within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade is Netsol Technologies (NTWK), which designs, develops, markets and exports proprietary software products to customers in the automobile finance and leasing, banking, health care and financial services industries internationally. This stock is off to a strong start in 2013, with shares up by 28%.

If you take a look at the chart for Netsol Technologies, you'll notice that this stock has been downtrending badly for the last two months, with shares sliding sharply lower from its high of $12.10 to its recent low of $7.03 a share. During that downtrend, shares of NTWK have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of NTWK have started to stabilize and reverse its downtrend, since the stock has started to make higher lows and higher highs over the last few weeks. This move is quickly pushing shares of NTWK within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in NTWK if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at $7.74 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 225,909 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then NTWK will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $8.71 to its 50-day moving average at $9.16 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give NTWK a chance to tag its 200-day at $10.20 to more resistance at $10.45 a share.

Traders can look to buy NTWK off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $7.20 or $7.03 a share. One can also buy NTWK off strength once it clears $7.74 a share with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage fr

There hasn been a January effect rally in shares of Ply Gem (PGEM). In fact, it has been quite the opposite. Shares are down a whopping 25% during the month. For a stock I rated as on of the Top 10 Sizzling Stocks, such a move is painful, but not disastrous. Sizzling Stocks are meant to be held for the duration of the year and we have 11 months to go. Small-cap stocks like Ply Gem can move sharply one direction or the other.

Nigeria reformed banking system has provided many foreigners with an attractive means to invest in the fast-growing domestic economy. The banking industry is important, not only because of the rise of microfinance, but because of the move by banks into consumer banking. Until recently, banks were mainly financing large businesses or the government through bond purchases. Following a banking crisis in 2008, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) conducted an audit of the commercial banking sector. All banks that failed the audit had their CEOs replaced. The state-owned Asset Management Corporation (AMCON) was created to purchase non-performing loans and recapitalize the unhealthy banks. A recent review of the country banks by the IMF showed a dramatic increase in profits for the industry in 2012, while the capital adequacy ratio was above the minimum requirement of 10% and non-performing loans were below the mandated threshold of 5%5.

Top Heal Care Companies To Watch For 2015

Consistent with prior public statements made by PepsiCo, Inc. ("PepsiCo"), following is the text of a letter sent from Ian Cook, Presiding Director of the Board of Directors of PepsiCo, to Trian Partners on February 27, 2014: Dear Mr. Peltz: Your letter of February 19, 2014 has been received and shared with the entire PepsiCo board and its management. I am writing to advise you that the board and management are comfortable and in complete alignment in rejecting your proposal. The board has been closely involved in evaluating the arguments that you presented in your earlier white paper, many of which were repeated in your recent correspondence. After initially proposing a spin-off of the snacks business and a merger of it with Mondelez, you have now indicated that your primary suggestion at this point is for PepsiCo to separate its global snacks and beverage businesses. We have carefully studied management extensive analysis of the current company structure and its beverage business and management conclusions that much of Trian data is selective and, in many instances, misused. Our board and management team are confident in the thoroughness of this analysis and in the conclusion that PepsiCo value is maximized as an integrated food and beverage company. We trust that you appreciate the seriousness with which we have examined your observations and proposal and the firmness with which we reject the proposal to separate the businesses. In short, the board and management have concluded that the financial engineering you propose erodes value for shareholders rather than creates value. We welcome our shareholderssuggestions for enhancing value. However, after fully considering and rejecting your proposals, the board and management have turned their attention to running the integrated company for the benefit of all shareholders and delivering the financial commitments projected. We thank you for your interest in PepsiCo. Sincerely, /s/ Ian Cook Ian Cook Presiding Director

Top 5 Financial Stocks To Own For 2016: SourcingLink.net Inc (SNET)

SourcingLink.net, Inc., incorporated in 1994, was involved in developing and deploying merchandise-sourcing solutions for the retail industry prior to its operating assets sale in March 2004. The Company's Internet-based, hosted solutions for the pre-order phase of business-to-business merchandise procurement enabled retailers to organize, automate and reduce the cost of their merchandise-sourcing activities by locating and connecting directly with their retail merchandise suppliers around the globe. Its solution, branded MySourcingCenter, provided an online location for search, display and comparison functions, and linked and managed the data and communications between retailers and merchandise suppliers in industry-specific private environments, organizing and automating sourcing or pre-order merchandise procurement activities over the Internet. The majority of the Company's revenue through the fiscal years ended March 31, 2001 (fiscal 2001) to 2003 (fiscal 2003) was generated from a contract entered into, in March 2000, with Carrefour S.A. After completion of the Carrefour agreement, SourcingLink.net, Inc. was unable to procure additional contracts to replace the revenue generated by the Carrefour agreement.

SourcingLink.net sold its operating assets and intellectual property, and its two customer contracts in two separate transactions, in March 2004, (collectively, the operating assets sale), and ceased its operating business at that time. Its fixed assets, software, intellectual property and customer contracts related to Internet-based merchandise sourcing solution were sold to a third party in Europe. The Company's list of potential customers and certain Lotus Notes templates related to its professional services business were sold to a separate foreign company.

Prior to the operating assets sale in March 2004, the Company also performed professional services that accounted for the majority of its revenue since fiscal 2001. Its professional services enabled customers to ! implement Internet-based electronic negotiations (eSourcing) solutions. SourcingLink.net's service offering was buyer auction programs, which encompassed assessment, savings delivery and training aimed at optimizing auction processes within the buying organization.

MySourcingCenter is an online sourcing solution for finding, displaying, comparing and negotiating the purchase of products. The Company provided customers with a turnkey solution, including project management for buyer rollout and both online and global helpdesk support for buyers and suppliers. Reporting and forms were standardized for suppliers and standard forms were also available for retailers. In addition, SourcingLink.net mapped standard supplier data to any forms specification the retailer may have had, providing a customized display to meet retailer requirements. All of the underlying software resided outside of customer firewalls in a third party co-location facility.

The Company's only customer for MySourcingCenter was the international purchasing department of France-based Leroy Merlin. It also signed a contract with a United States-based customer, for which initial planning had occurred prior to the operating assets sale in March 2004.

SourcingLink.net provided professional services in the area of Internet-based, pre-order merchandise procurement. It assisted retailers in the conduct of online real-time negotiation events and trained buying organizations to become autonomous in conducting such events. Related to the Company's Internet solution, it provided project management for retailer implementations of MySourcingCenter. SourcingLink.net provided services to Carrefour, from April 2000, through mid-fiscal 2004, under a three-year contract. This contract provided the majority of the Company's revenues during the prior three fiscal years. It also provided services to the WorldWide Retail Exchange and certain of its members. One such contract provided about one-third of its services revenue ! during fi! scal year 2004. The Company's professional services customers included Carrefour, under the Carrefour contract, and members of several industry exchanges, including the WorldWide Retail Exchange, a retail industry exchange with 60 members around the globe, and CPGmarkets, an exchange for manufacturers of consumer packaged goods, whose members are in Europe.

All mREITs are taking it on the chin
The agency crew, led by heavy hitters Annaly Capital (NYSE: NLY  ) , American Capital Agency (NASDAQ: AGNC  ) , and Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR  ) , have all been close to hitting 52-week lows, but the blood-letting hasn't stopped there. Even hybrid mortgage REITs, which also buy some non-agency paper, have plunged, as well. Two Harbors (NYSE: TWO  ) , which enjoyed such a nice lift post-earnings about a month ago, recently sunk to new lows, and Invesco Mortgage Capital (NYSE: IVR  ) has also slipped, even after its CIO's recent show of faith, making a sizable insider purchaseof stock less than two weeks ago.

While these companies are still heavily involved, there is also a new presence on the scene: the single-family home REIT. Last December, mortgage REIT Two Harbors (NYSE: TWO  ) spun off Silver Bay Realty (NYSE: SBY  ) after selling its stable of 3,100 homes to Silver Bay prior to its initial public offering. Around the same time, Altisource Residentialwas also born, spun off from Altisource Portfolio Solutions (NASDAQ: ASPS  ) .

However, that growth is 20% in FY13, 15% in FY14 and 9% in the long term. PAG stock trades at $41, or about 13x FY14 estimates. It has the least leverage of all, at about $1 billion, and while it has positive FCF, that figure is weaker than our other options. PAG isn’t the worst of the car stocks, but AN stock is in better condition. Il pass on PAG.

In a recent interview right here on GuruFocus, Tom Gayner of Markel (MKL) had a few things to say about CarMax (KMX). This prompted me to give the company a closer look. What follows is a business analysis. We will save considerations of stock analysis, such as price, for a later discussion.

I think that is a business that will continue to grow. I don't see any reason why you can't have a Carmax in a lot of towns way beyond what they're talking about right now. I think being the number one dealer, and having the number one market share in used car arena gives you great information on what transaction prices are. Then you work on the process to be as quick and as cost efficient in fixing the car and getting it sold, and have the confidence from customers when you offer warranties on the products. Those factors create a virtuous cycle. The more you do, the more you can do, the better the pricing is, the more the customers like you, the more your brand matters. The company will be around for a good long time. The management has done a very good job of creating the system and executing it.
CarMax was formed as a unit of Circuit City in 1993 and was spun off in 2002. Used-car sales account for about 80% of revenue. Competitors include, but certainly are not limited to, AutoNation (AN) and America's Car-Mart (CRMT) as well as private party sellers.

Best Investment Firms Ranked by Advisors: J.D. Power 2014 Satisfaction Study

J.D. Power & Associates says that the overall level of satisfaction among both employee and independent advisors “remains relatively high,” according to its 2014 survey. However, large numbers of reps do not understand their compensation, and many also feel that the latest comp packages are unfavorable to them.

"Being paid competitively is important, but elements related to issues like clarity and consistency are also significant,” explained Michael Foy, director of J.D. Power & Associates’ wealth management practice in New York, in an interview. “A substantial number of advisors say they do not fully understand their compensation packages – 40%. Clearly that is a problem across both channels.”

The latest satisfaction study reflects the views of more than 3,900 advisors. It was redesigned from the prior year, with responses collected between January and April.

“There were a number of changes in compensation, particularly on the employee-advisor side,” Foy said. “About half of these advisors said their plans changed in the past year, with four out of 10 saying the changes were negative.”

In the independent channel, only about a third of reps experienced compensation changes, with about one in four having negative views of the new comp plans.

Despite these compensation issues, overall satisfaction among employee advisors increased to 721 (on a 1,000-point scale) from 695 a year ago, and satisfaction among independent advisors fell to 778 from 794.

Also, 87% of employee reps and 93% of independent advisors say they “definitely will” or “probably will” remain at their current firm for the next one or two years, the survey finds.

Best Income Companies To Watch For 2016

Still, cautions Foy, the survey results should not make investment firms complacent.

When financial markets are doing well, investment firms might have “a false sense of security for their future success,” he says. “As markets turn around, it’s likely that we will see some erosion in satisfaction.”

As a result, firms should do a better job of communicating with their advisors about the firm’s strategic vision, culture and compensation. “It’s crucial for such communication to occur, so that advisors buy into strategy, understand the vision and compensation, and are able to use tools of support like technology and marketing across the board.”

Keep reading to see how advisors assessed each of the major investment firms in the employee and independent channel:
