5 Best International Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesThe Dow Jones news ticker in Times Square, New York City. NEW YORK -- Investment bank Goldman Sachs Group (GS), credit-card company Visa (V), and footwear Nike (NKE) will join the blue chip Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI) Dow Jones industrial average, the index managers said Tuesday, in the biggest shake-up for the 30-stock average in nearly a decade. The three companies will replace Bank of America (BAC), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Alcoa (AA), all lower-priced stocks that exert a lesser pull on the price-weighted index. The changes will be effective on Sept. 23, S&P Dow Jones Indices said in a statement. The average, first established in 1896, includes 30 stocks, but very little money is indexed to its performance, unlike the broader Standard & Poor's 500 (^GSPC) or other indexes. In addition, because it is weighted by price, companies that are smaller in value with higher prices have more influence on the average. "Wow, those are big changes," said Tim Ghriskey, chief investment officer of Solaris Group in Bedford Hills, N.Y. "The Dow is really an antiquated index. It is price-weighted, which makes no sense. But there are still are some people that pay attention to it, and some technicians, so it has an influence on some people." Google (GOOG) and other names were considered for inclusion but passed over because of high stock prices, David Blitzer, managing director and chairman of the S&P Index Committee, told CNBC. The index manager said the changes were prompted by the low stock price of the three companies slated for removal and a desire to diversify the make-up of the index. Alcoa, in particular, has been seen as a candidate for elimination for some time, as the stock's market value of $8.5 billion is easily the lowest in the average. It is the first three-for-three change to the index since April 8, 2004, when American International Group (AIG), Pfizer (PFE) and Verizon (VZ) replaced AT&T (T), Eastman Kodak and International Paper (IP).

Advisors' Opinion:

    An appropriate reaction?
The market's reaction to railroad companies hasn't been favorable. Canadian National Railway (NYSE: CNI  ) (NYSE: CNI  ) traded down today by 0.6%, while Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP  ) (NYSE: UNP  ) lost more than 0.7% of its market value. Clearly, the markets took Saturday's accident seriously. However, with so much crude oil ready for cross-country trips, railroad companies are unlikely to be affected in the grander scheme of things, at least in the near term.

  • [By Rich Duprey]

Railroad operatorCanadian National Railway (NYSE: CNI  ) announced yesterday its third-quarter dividend of $0.43 Canadian per share, the same rate it's paid for the past two quarters after raising the payout 15% from $0.375 Canadian per share.

  • [By Sean Williams]

Notable railroads that could be hit by a slowdown in oil transports because of a declining spread include Canadian National Railway (NYSE: CNI  ) , Union Pacific (NYSE: UNP  ) , and Berkshire Hathawaysubsidiary BNSF.

  • [By Aaron Levitt]

The first whistle stop for investors could be Canadian National (CNI). As the owner of the two trains that collided in North Dakota, CNI shares fell pretty hard on the crude-by-rail accident and aftermath. However, Canadian National is the largest operator of railways in Canada, giving it unprecedented access to not only Bakken-based crude-by-rail shipments, but oil sands shipments as well. And that makes it one of the best railroad stocks to consider.

What’s this? The iron miners includingRio Tinto (RIO), BHP Billiton (BHP) and Vale (VALE) are getting killed but here’s the generally bearish Gordon Johnson of Axiom Capital upgrading Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF) to Hold from Sell. The reason? Valuation. Johnson explains:

  • [By Dave Forest]

During a successful career with major mining houses like BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP), John-Mark brought his considerable powers of observation and reasoning to bear on geological terrains where major mines might be discovered. He became an expert in developing strategies on where field teams might find massive and valuable accumulations of mineralized rock sticking out of the ground.

  • [By Ben Levisohn]

Shares of Cliffs Natural Resources have dropped 1% to $22.92 today at 3:14 p.m., even as base-metal giants BHP Billiton (BHP) and Rio Tinto (RIO) gain. BHP Billiton is up 2.8% to $70.20 after beating earnings forecasts, while Rio Tinto has advanced 1.7%. Vale (VALE) has dropped 1.2% to $14.48.

  • [By Rich Duprey]

While I see that as a temporary response to the currency destruction being engineered by central bankers -- people only have their gold to sell to get cash, so it's depressing the price --BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP  ) is also looking to strip away things it now considers unessential to its main operations, and it has idled a number of coal mines and is looking to shed oil and gas assets because they're deemed the easiest to get rid of. Cliffs Natural Resources (NYSE: CLF  ) is idling iron pellet facilities because of weakness in the steel industry.

That missing production is a slight blow in the short term. SRN was only going to contribute 2,500 MT of oils by the end of 2014 and, if expanded further, only 25,000 MT. By contrast, Solazyme will capture much larger production volumes with its partner Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE: ADM  ) and in its joint venture with Bunge (NYSE: BG  )

Investors will be on the lookout for further, perhaps larger, customer announcements in the coming quarters. Just remember that there is plenty of time between now and mid-2015. Until then, there should be no worries from the guidance and commercialization aid Solazyme will receive from agri-giants Bunge (NYSE: BG  ) and Archer Daniels Midland (NYSE: ADM  ) .

The most obvious choice is through Movado Group (NYSE: MOV  ) , which uses a combination of electronic and mechanical movements through its collection. With an average price point of $300 through upwards of $2,000 per timepiece, Movado delivers to consumers the perception of a higher-end watch and delivers the sleek statement styling that many upper-income earners are looking for. Not surprisingly, Movado has blown Wall Street's EPS estimates out of the water in each of the past four quarters and attributed its 6% sales growth in the first quarter primarily to increased sales in its "accessible luxury category." Not to be forgotten, Movado also has greater than $5 per share in cash and is debt-free, giving shareholders quite the safety net and allowing Movado the luxury of boosting its dividend should it choose to do so.

AP/Tim Sharp There were plenty of winners and losers this week, with the leading online retailer introducing a smartphone and a former gold mine of a for-profit educator warning that it may have to drop out of school. Here's a rundown of the week's best and worst in the business world. YouTube -- Loser Billboard is reporting that Google's (GOOG) popular video-sharing website may be about to pull videos from a raft of indie bands. We're not talking about pirated tracks that were uploaded to the site illegally. These are the videos posted by legitimately by the musicians and their labels -- and they account for 10 percent of the music that YouTube has rights to feature. Seems that YouTube is getting ready to finally introduce a music subscription service, and if it hasn't been able to strike a music streaming deal with an artist, it doesn't want to give folks an incentive to sidestep its brand-new premium platform and just stream tracks for free off the site. This could get hairy: The list of indie artists at risk includes some biggies like Adele, Arctic Monkeys, and Vampire Weekend. Amazon.com (AMZN) -- Winner As expected, Amazon dove headfirst into the smartphone market on Wednesday with the debut of the Fire smartphone. The leading online retailer's hoping to raise the bar with features including unlimited photo storage, Firefly media identification, Mayday video support, and Dynamic Perspective that uses four cameras to provide a cutting-edge display that adapts to where the viewer's face is at any time. As a cherry on top, Amazon is offering Fire buyers 12 months of Amazon Prime for a limited time. Folks already paying for Prime -- and there are now tens of millions of them -- will get 12 months tacked on to their current memberships. That's a $99 value, making the device more affordable (and considering that Amazon priced it at about what an iPhone 5s goes for, some form of discount is a wise idea), but it also connects the owner directly into Amazon

Top Quality Stocks To Watch For 2014

For a while there a couple of years ago, 3D TV was the next big thing with electronics manufacturers. Customers were far less enthusiastic and 3D television sets from makers like Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Sony Corp. (NYSE: SNE) never lived up to the hype.

Now, the Chinese smartphone maker that can do no wrong, Xiaomi Technology, has introduced a 3D TV set with a 47-inch screen made by either Samsung or LG for $499. The devices are said to be Internet-ready using the Android operating system from Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG).

Xiaomi, like all the other makers that came before, faces an almost insurmountable problem: the availability of good quality content in sufficient quantity to make the 3D TV worth the money. There is a limit to how many times consumers want to watch spears getting thrown at them through the TV set.

The lack of content essentially killed 3D as a feature, and there has been little demand for streaming or pay 3D TV. ESPN and the BBC are dropping their 3D broadcasts this year. DirecTV (NASDAQ: DTV) has cut its 3D channel to part-time operation, and a Sony-led partnership offering is virtually unknown.

By now just about everybody has heard of Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG  ) , but few outside California before its IPO had heard of El Pollo Loco (NASDAQ: LOCO  ) . It can be awfully tempting to ditch the seemingly more mature Chipotle chain and try to latch on to the next big thing. But is hitching a ride with the new kid on the Wall Street block really the smart move?

  • [By WWW.DAILYFINANCE.COM]

www.elpolloloco.com One of this year's hottest initial public offerings is a quick-service restaurant chain that prides itself on its grilled citrus-marinated chicken. El Pollo Loco (LOCO) has seen its stock more than double since it went public at $15 in July. The California-based eatery had its first chance to impress investors with its first quarterly report as a public company on Thursday. It didn't disappoint. Sales inched 6.3 percent higher to $86.9 million, fueled primarily by a 5.4 percent increase in system-wide comparable-restaurant sales. Adjusted earnings climbed 10 percent to $6.1 million -- or 16 cents a share. The results were in line with analyst targets of 16 cents a share in net income on $86.4 million in sales. This isn't the kind of monster growth that investors associate with stocks that double within two months of storming out of the IPO gate, but El Pollo Loco now has the ammo to begin expanding its reach beyond the 401 locations open at the end of June. For investors, El Pollo Loco offers an opportunity to cash in on the fast-casual trend that's been faring better than traditional fast-food chains or casual-dining establishments. Spreading Its Wings Going public has its challenges. It forces companies to live up to Wall Street's quarterly expectations, and that can often get in the way of carrying out long-term growth plans. However, trading publicly gives a company the ability to tap equity markets to raise capital. It also helps validate brands, and that's a pretty big deal for a consumer-facing restaurant operator that relies on third-party franchisees to help build out its empire. A majority of its eateries -- 233 locations, or 58 percent -- are owned and operated by franchisees. Expansion has been slow until now. El Pollo Loco had 347 locations when it originally tried but ultimately failed to go public in 2006. Growing your store count by 16 percent through eight years isn't very impressive. El Pollo Loco had 398 restauran

One of this year's hottest individual public offerings is El Pollo Loco (LOCO). The fast-casual chain specializing in citrus-marinated grilled chicken has seen its stock roughly double since going public at $15 this summer. There have been several eatery IPOs that have gone stale in recent months, but El Pollo Loco has remained strong. That could all change on Thursday when it reports. It will be the market's first taste of the chicken chain as a public company, and naturally expectations are high when a stock doubles out of the gate. Friday -- At the Movies

Mark Lennihan/APJack Ma is the founder of Alibaba. There has been no shortage of debutantes on Wall Street lately. Dozens of companies went public last quarter -- many of them names you know, or that you will know soon. These some of the more intriguing initial public offerings to come out of this past quarter. El Pollo Loco (LOCO) Fast casual has been the place to be for investing in the restaurant industry, and that helped pave the way for this California-based chain specializing in citrus-marinated chicken to go public in July at $15 a share. Investors won't be impressed by its slow yet calculated expansion. It had grown from 398 locations to just 401 in the year leading up to its IPO. However, El Pollo Loco's store-level performance has been impressive. It posted a 5.4 percent increase in comparable-restaurant sales in its first quarter as a public company. That is certainly better than the average fast-food or casual-dining chain out there, once again validating the fast-casual model, where chains offer the convenience of fast food but the quality of traditional casual-dining restaurants. Mobileye (MBLY) The push to develop self-driving cars is really getting traction, a fact that became even more apparent last week when Tesla (TSLA) showed off an updated sedan that uses a dozen sensors to do everything from adjusting speed in accordance with speed limit signs when it's on cruise control to switching lanes automatically when the sensors see an opening in traffic after the driver triggers the turn signal. But clever sensors notwithstanding, self-driving cars won't happen without serious software, and that's where Mobileye comes in. The Israeli company provides software and chips for camera-based advanced driver assistance systems. This will likely become a competitive market in the future, but for now Mobileye is seen as a leading pioneer in self-driving vehicles. Its share price has roughly doubled since it went public at $25 just two months ago. Re

If the saying goes "when life gives you lemons, then make lemonade," then one of the themes for the energy world was if oil prices plummet, buy energy investments isolated from oil prices. Tallgrass certainly fits that bill with its interstate gas transmission lines and partial ownership of the Pony Express crude pipeline.

  • [By Robert Rapier] There were a half a dozen initial public offerings (IPOs) by master limited partnerships in the first half of the year, and all but one are now in the green while one has nearly doubled in value.

The first MLP IPO of 2013 debuted on Jan. 15. USA Compression Partners (NYSE: USAC), which I mentioned in last week’s issue, provides compression services for the oil and gas industry. Units have advanced 36 percent since the IPO, and at the current price yield 7.3 percent.

The day after the USA Compression Partners IPO, CVR Refining (NYSE: CVRR) made its debut.  CVRR was spun off from CVR Energy (NYSE: CVI), and both companies remain majority-owned by Carl Icahn. CVR Refining’s primary assets are two refineries located in Kansas and Oklahoma with a combined processing capacity of approximately 185,000 barrels per day (bpd). These refineries are strategically located near the major Cushing, Oklahoma shipment and storage hub, with easy access to discounted feedstock from the nearby Permian basin, as well as the Bakken shale and Canadian oil sands.

But refiners have struggled with diminished margins in 2013 because of a much lower Brent-WTI differential. After the recently concluded second quarter, CVRR declared a distribution of $1.35 per unit, bringing its per-unit distributions for the first half of the year to $2.93. At the same time, CVR Refining lowered its annual distribution target to a range of $4.10 to $4.80 per unit. This was lower than the outlook issued in March, when it foresaw annual distributions of $5.50 to $6.50. CVRR units slid on the news, and are presently trading slightly below the $25 IPO price. The lower end of the revised forecast implies distributions of $1.17 per unit in the second half of the year, for a forward annualized yield of 10 percent based on the recent $23.50 unit price.

When traders think of exciting story stocks, China Techfaith Wireless Comm. Tech. Ltd (NASDAQ:CNTF) probably doesn't show up on anybody's list. In the same way that it's more difficult for big investment funds to grow because of sheer size, it becomes harder for integrated major oil companies such as Chevron (NYSE: CVX  ) to move the oil-production needle. In fact, the company has joinedExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM  ) in seeing production shrink recently. Much of Chevron's recent slip comes from a shutdown at several facilities for maintenance, so while that may not be too much to worry about in the near future, it does raise questions about whether the company can grow its production.

So far, it operates four LNG facilities that are either online, under construction, or approved for export. The stock has since wiggled its way back to the current price of $0.84, but the effort has largely been dismissed as volatility. Big mistake. When you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, you start to see Cardium Therapeutics shares are on the cusp of a monster-sized rebound.

Compare Famous Dave's to Brinker International (NYSE: EAT  ) , the owners of the Chili's and Maggiano's chains. Brinker International reported almost a 15% restaurant operating profit margin last quarter. Though it may be harder for Famous Dave's to get to 15% margins with pork ribs than Brinker International with burgers and pasta, 15% is a good target. It would add around $1 million to the bottom line by carving 2.7% off the top. It would also add around $0.14 in EPS, a 67% increase over last quarter. It helps that Famous Dave's has such a small, tight share structure.

Brinker International Inc.(EAT) said its first-quarter profit increased 12%, helped by higher sales at its Chili’s Grill & Bar and Maggiano’s Little Italy chains.

Top 5 High Tech Companies To Watch For 2014: Interleukin Genetics Inc (ILIU.PK)

Interleukin Genetics, Inc., incorporated on March 28, 2000, is a personalized health company, which develops genetic tests to provide information to manage health and specific health risks. The Company business focuses on personalized health, by providing genetic tests with clinical value. Its tests are made available through marketing partners or directly to end users. The Company's primary business focus and strategy is to continue the Company's commercialization efforts with its PST genetic test. In addition, the Company plans to continue to develop and sells tests for its own business needs under the Inherent Health brand.

The Company's genetic tests that are being commercialized includes PST is a genetic test, which analyzes genetic variations associated with inflammation and identifies individuals who are at increased risk for more severe periodontal disease; Weight Management Genetic Test determines whether a low fat, low carbohydrate or balanced diet may normal or vigorous exercise, which is needed to lose existing body fat; Bone Health Genetic Test is designed to identify whether an individual is more likely to be susceptible to spine fractures and low bone mineral density associated with osteoporosis; Heart Health Genetic Test is designed to identify genetic predisposition to excess inflammation, which is a risk factor for heart attack, and Wellness Select Genetic Test allows buyers to purchase any combination of Inherent Health genetic tests at a discounted price. The Company is also focusing its genetic test development efforts on the development of an Osteoarthritis, or OA, genetic test to identify individuals at increased risk for severe OA.

Genetic Test for Risk of Periodontal Disease

PST is a genetic test that analyzes genetic variations associated with inflammation and identifies individuals who are at increased risk for more severe periodontal disease. The PST genetic test identifies specific polymorphisms (genetic variations) in genes that! regulate the production of interleukin cytokines.Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is well-established as one of the critical regulators of periodontal disease, and studies in non-human primates have shown that drugs specifically blocking IL-1 alone or IL-1 plus TNFa reduces tissue destruction even when the bacterial challenge is not reduced.

Inherent Health Brand of Genetic Tests

The Company's Weight Management Genetic Test helps take the guesswork out of finding an effective diet and exercise solution by revealing actionable steps to achieve weight goals based on genetics. The test provides new information beyond traditional assessments, so that nutritional intake and fitness routines can be tailored for improved, sustainable results. This test identifies five SNPs in four human genes: fatty acid binding protein 2 (FABP2); adrenergic receptor beta 2 (ADRB2 two variations); adrenergic receptor beta 3 (ADRB3); and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR- ). These markers are involved in certain physiological pathways relating to body weight. Certain patterns of markers are associated with differential response to certain diet and exercise regimens.

The Company has conducted a number of studies that demonstrate a gene-diet interaction based on the multi-locus patterns . In the original study, 311 overweight/obese (body mass index, 27-40 kg/m2), nondiabetic, premenopausal, generally healthy women were randomly assigned for 12 months to either the Atkins-like ( low carbohydrate), Zone-like (low carbohydrate), LEARN-like (balanced), or Ornish-like (low fat) diets for the primary purpose of losing weight. The data collected in that study included dietary intake assessment (three unannounced 24-hour recalls for each time point administered by a dietitian and analyzed using NDS-R, University of Minnesota), anthropometric measures including weight, and related physiological variables, all collected at baseline, two, six, and 12 months.

Bone Health Genetic T! est

The Company's Bone Health Genetic Test is designed to identify whether an individual is more likely to be susceptible to spine fractures and low bone mineral density associated with osteoporosis. Although it typically starts later in life, early intervention can help prevent osteoporosis. Preventive measures can reduce the risk for bone loss and fractures, which in the case of vertebral fractures leads to a hunched over appearance. The test identifies a SNP in each of three genes involved in processes that affect bone; estrogen receptor alpha (ER1 Xba1), vitamin D receptor (VDR), and interleukin-1 (IL-1). Certain patterns of variations are associated with increased risk of spine fracture and/or low bone mineral density. The test can be used as an aid to making diet, exercise, and other lifestyle choices to maintain and improve bone health.

Nutritional Needs Genetics Test

The Company's Nutritional Needs Genetics Test is designed to identify DNA variations in genes crucial to B-vitamin metabolism and the ability to manage oxidative stress. Individuals with certain variations in these genes may be at increased risk for ineffective utilization of B-vitamins and potential for cell damage caused by oxidative stress, both of which can in some cases lead to increased risk for certain diseases. The test identifies the presence or absence of human genotypic markers methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and transcobalamin II (TCN2) involved in vitamin B metabolism and markers superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2), glutathione S-transferase 1 deletions (GSTM1), paraoxonase 1 (PON1), X-ray repair cross complementing group 1 (XRCC1) in response to oxidative stress. Certain variations are associated with less efficient B-vitamin metabolism or reduced activity of endogenous anti-oxidant systems. The test may be used to aid individuals in deciding whether to supplement their diet with B vitamins and/or antioxidants.

Genetic Test Pipeline

The Company is focusing! its gene! tic test development efforts on programs, including Osteoarthritis Genetic Test. OA is the common adult joint disease, increasing in frequency and severity in all aging populations. The estimated U.S. prevalence is 20-40 million patients or five times that of rheumatoid arthritis. The Company's OA program plans to investigate whether interleukin gene variations together with several other inflammatory gene variations is associated with the occurrence of multi-joint OA for the development of a genetic risk assessment test.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Brian Marckx]

Interleukin Genetics, Inc. (ILIU.PK) develops genetic tests focused on personal health. Through applied genetics research and scientific collaborations, the company has made significant progress in understanding how genetic make-up can affect an individual's predisposition and risk of suffering from certain diseases. Interleukin's research has specifically focused on a form of genetic variation called single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and how it can have an impact on a person's health. The company has applied this knowledge in the development of genetic tests focused on areas such as weight management, cardiovascular health and periodontal disease. Interleukin sells its Inherent Health line of tests, which launched in 2009, to the consumer market and maintains a CLIA-certified lab at its headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts, where consumers send test samples for processing.

Investors Signal Now's the Time to Buy Coal

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- On Friday, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy announced new coal-burning electric plants will have limits on the amount of carbon dioxide they emit into the air. The announcement wasn't unexpected after President Obama announced plans to limit greenhouse gases.

However, the results on your portfolio and electric bill may be.

What happens when you mix a Boston Clean Air Task Force, EPA, Department of Energy, Sierra Club, Mississippi Public Service Commission, White House limits on greenhouse-gas emissions and a new carbon capturing electric power plant by Southern Co (KBR)?

Lawsuit after lawsuit, a billion dollars in cost overruns, taxpayer subsidies and the most expensive coal plant to operate causing electric rates to skyrocket, if this becomes the norm. The new project is called Plant Ratcliffe by Southern Co. Plant Ratcliffe is quite the boondoggle, but proponents say it always costs more to build the first one and costs will come down as the technology improves. More plants are in the planning stages and may bring a needed shot in the arm to mining stocks. Alpha Natural Resources (ANR), Walter Energy (WLT), Arch Coal (ACI), Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF), Peabody Energy (BTU), and James River Coal (JRCC) are companies that may benefit from increased demand for coal. Not all coal or coal companies are equal, so it's crucial to discriminate based on your investment time-horizon goals. With that said, the announcement should have been followed by a deep sell-off in coal and utility related stocks. But something happened. Or, rather, didn't happen. The above coal stocks didn't sell off tremendously and are largely moving along with the rest of the market today. This is noteworthy because stocks don't bottom on good news, they reach a bottom on awful news. Let me explain: When a stock chart continues trending lower, what you're witnessing is investors throwing in the towel and moving on. Leaving aside bankruptcies for a moment, almost all stocks have a core group of investors that are commonly known as the "strong hands." A stock is at the bottom when the weak hands are gone. At some point, distressing news (like an unfavorable EPA announcement regarding coal) hits the wire and the related stock or stocks react with little or no movement. This is what we are witnessing right now in coal-related companies.

The above companies are only marginally lower today. After adjusting for a drop in the S&P 500 of over half a percent, as seen by the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), the coal-related stocks are essentially flat. This sets up a buying opportunity for long-term investors.

Because this is a long-term play, I especially like selling option premium, so we get paid for our time while lowering our risk. Here is one idea that you may consider.

Option activity for Cliffs Natural Resources has climbed recently, especially this week, and the stock is oversold technically. This sets Cliffs slightly ahead of the pack. But any of the above coal miners are viable candidates.

We can currently sell a November $17 strike put option for about 38 cents. The $17 strike allows over $5 of downside before the writer experiences a decline in profitability. If Cliffs is trading above $17 at the expiration, the entire option premium is profit, a 2.2% gain in 56 days. The trade has an expected 90% chance of being profitable. At the time of publication the author had no position in any of the stocks mentioned. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Just for the record, Superconductor Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCON) isn't over the hump yet. But, given the likelihood that it could get over the hump with little to no fanfare, now's the time to put SCON on your radar.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

A week and a half ago, not to mention a couple of months ago, I suggested Superconductor Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCON) was a budding bullish play worthy of your attention. I get the suspicion that while more than a handful of traders read my take, the vast majority of the people who read that commentary weren't as impressed with (SCON) as I was. That's fine. Yet, being a diehard - and perhaps being a glutton for punishment - this is one of those trading ideas I can't let go of, mostly because Superconductor Technologies refuse to give up. Thing is, the stock's given me some new bullish fodder to use since the last look back on January 6th.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

It's not the kind of thing anybody would have expected to hear, or read, five months ago, but Superconductor Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SCON) is close to becoming one of the market's best bullish short-term bets. Yes, we're talking about the same Superconductor Technologies that plunged from $2.57 to $1.66 in August - hitting new lows in the process - on news that the company was issuing $12 million worth of new stock... right in front of news that SCON booked another significant quarterly loss. By November, the disaster's final tally was officially recorded - an 82% plunge in the prior quarter's revenue for SCON. As they say though, nothing lasts forever. That includes a malaise that can hold a stock down. Indeed, it's looking like SCON is about to make an explosive move higher.

For USA Compression Partners (USAC), it is all in the name the company provides natural gas compression services to the extraction industry.

This is a volume-dependent business and volume is booming. USA Compression Partnersrevenue was up 20% in 2012 and will be up that much or more when final numbers from 2014 come in. Third=quarter results were terrific: revenue was up almost 24% year over year and adjusted cash flow, the basis of the dividend, was up more than 29% year over year. The yield is currently 6.7% and will probably go higher. Ignore the P/E. This is a growth and dividend story. Take a look.
